Colorado Army National Guard Can Help With School

The Colorado Army National Guard is a part-time organization that primarily serves the state of Colorado during emergencies, such as floods, wildfires, and pandemics. The Colorado Army National Guard also serves the United States, and stands ready to assist in missions overseas. Our part-time force is made up of your Colorado neighbors: college students, business owners, parents, healthcare workers, and more.


Benefits:


State Tuition Assistance (TA)

The State TA program is a state-funded benefit specific to the state of Colorado. State TA awards up to 100% of tuition costs. National Guard soldiers can use up to $5,000 per semester ($15,000 per year) towards in-state, public institutions. This benefit is available for 132 credit hours, or 8 years total. To maintain eligibility, soldiers must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.


Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

FTA pays tuition costs up to $250 per semester hour, for up to 16 semester hours per fiscal year. FTA may be used for an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Certificate program. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained to remain eligible for this benefit. FTA caps out at 130 undergrad semester hours, 39 grad semester hours, or 21 certificate semester hours.


Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve Chapter 1606

This is a monthly stipend to assist with living expenses while enrolled in college courses. The current rate for full-time students is $439.00 per month. This stipend is paid directly to the student, every month that they are enrolled in an educational program (for up to 36 months).


Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program

The CA Program pays $4,000 per year for courses, course materials, and exam fees for industry recognized civilian credentials in an occupational area of your choice. Some examples of the popular credentials available: CompTIA Security+, Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT), Private Pilot, and Project Management Professional (PMP).


TRICARE Health and Dental Insurance

National Guard soldiers are eligible to utilize TRICARE Reserve-Select, a comprehensive healthcare that covers the soldier, their spouse, and any dependents in their household, and TRICARE Dental.


VA Home Loan

The VA Home Loan allows eligible National Guard soldiers to finance a home with no down payment, no mortgage insurance and lenient credit requirements.


Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)

The TSP is a tax-deferred retirement savings and investment plan that offers National Guard soldiers the same type of savings and tax benefits that many private corporations offer their employees under 401(k) plans.


Incentives:

  • Student Loan Repayment

  • Receive up to $50,000 of Student Loan Repayment. Loans must be federal, non-private, and in good standing.*

  • Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves Kicker

  • Receive an additional $350 per month on top of the $439 per month from the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606).*

  • Signing Bonuses

  • Receive $20,000 for enlisting into a critical skill MOS, or $7,500 for attending training during the off peak season.*

*To receive incentives, an individual must meet the eligibility criteria for incentives, and enlist into a critical skill MOS.

The Minuteman Scholarship is a National Guard ROTC Scholarship that covers full tuition and fees or $10,000 toward room and board at any college or university served by an Army ROTC program. Recipients also receive $1,200/year Book Stipend, $420/month Cadet Stipend, and earn E5/Sergeants pay whle serving in a National Guard unit close to school/home. Recipients participate in ROTC activities, and drill with a National Guard unit to complete their training requirements to become an Officer.
