CCD’s Spring Break Schedule Survey

Dear CityHawks,

President DeSanctis is seeking your input. Traditionally, all three institutions on the Auraria campus have aligned their Spring Break on the same week. However, the current published Spring Break week for CCD is not in sync with the other institutions on campus.

To make an informed decision that reflects our community’s needs, Dr. DeSanctis is inviting students, faculty, instructors, and staff to share their feedback on either keeping our published Spring Break week or considering an alternative option. Please find attached a document outlining key considerations to help inform discussions on this matter.

Your feedback is essential in guiding the president’s final decision, which will be communicated college-wide along with the reasoning behind it.

With a tight timeline for this decision, we ask that you please complete the survey within the next week.

Thank you for your participation and for helping shape CCD’s approach to this matter.

Sincerely,

Office of the President

CCD Spring Break Background:

  • CCD's spring break is scheduled for March 17-21.

  • MSU and UCD have scheduled their spring breaks for March 24-28.

Traditionally, the three institutions align their spring breaks, but this year they do not.

    Known Considerations:

    1. Campus Operations:

o CCD staff and administration do not have spring break as a holiday. Campus offices remain open for regular business, even though classes are on break.

    2. Alignment with Local Institutions:

o DPS's spring break is March 24-28. Traditionally, Auraria Campus and DPS do not intentionally align their spring breaks.

o Other school districts in the metro area and Colorado have varying spring breaks throughout March.

3. System-Wide Schedule Variability:

o CCCS does not have aligned spring breaks. Colorado Online courses accommodate different schedules by supporting a floating spring break model for flexibility.

4. Neighboring Colleges’ Schedules:

o ACC, FRCC, and RRCC scheduled spring breaks for March24-28.

o CCA scheduled its spring break for March 10-15.

5. Concurrent Enrollment:

o CCD concurrent enrollment students have historically managed CCD's schedule even if it does not align with their high school’s break. High schools and instructors have accommodated this for many years, although it may not always be ideal for all involved.

6. Cross-Enrollment with MSU and UCD:

o Very few CCD students are also enrolled in MSU or UCD classes:

  • 11 students are registered for fall 2024.

  • 17 students are registered for spring 2025. 7.

Impact on Student and Staff Plans:

o Students, faculty, and staff often make travel arrangements based on spring break dates. Adjusting the date could potentially disrupt existing plans.
